Difficult People: A Portal to Self-Realization

Difficult People: A Portal to Self-Realization

Dorothy and The Wicked Witch of the East

The Wizard of Oz, originally a book, then a movie, revolves around a young girl named Dorothy, her little dog Toto and a dream she had one night. The dream was sparked by a terrifying incident that day when Dorothy’s next-door neighbor, a very difficult person, threatened to kill Dorothy’s beloved Toto. That night in her dream, Dorothy embarks on a journey to find the ‘Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz’ who lives over the rainbow, and who will ‘melt all her troubles like lemon drops.’ As dreams are often symbolic, in Dorothy’s dream, the difficult neighbor morphs into the Wicked Witch of the West, the most difficult person of all. Through winning the magical red slippers from the Witch, Dorothy learns the most valuable lesson of all: she had the magic all along, she just had to learn how to use it.

Like Dorothy, it’s the difficult people in our life who teach us the most valuable lessons. Along the ‘yellow brick road’ (our soul’s journey) we, too, can find our way back home by using the uncomfortable triggered energy from difficult people. In our deepest layer of Being, we’ve embarked on this journey to wake up and realize who we truly are. Using the tools and frames of Process Coaching we can peel off the projections we’ve had on difficult people and experience more love that we imagined was possible.
